Neighbors United for a Better East Boston (NUBE)

NUBE employs cultural and healing practices across its different work areas, including community engagement, membership, volunteers, and staff. For the community, NUBE celebrates cultural events like International Women’s Day and Earth Day, offering small gifts and plants to build relationships and foster healing. At the membership and volunteer level, NUBE provides food, stipends, and social spaces to support connection and solidarity, acknowledging the demanding work of members who also hold other jobs. At the staff level, NUBE integrates wellness practices, offering non-traditional benefits like fitness training and massage therapy, as well as grounding practices during meetings and an annual retreat. NUBE is also exploring partnerships, such as addressing machismo in the LatinX community through culturally-based wellness practices, connecting healing to its broader political work.
